Genres: literary fiction (upmarket/book-club fiction) and nonfiction (including memoir, self-help, and academic writing).
Loranne Brown’s first novel, The Handless Maiden (Doubleday Canada 1998) was a finalist for provincial and national awards and nominated for an international award.
She recently retired after twenty-five years as Assistant Professor of Professional Writing, Department of Media + Communication, at Trinity Western University (Langley, BC). Among other subjects, she taught journalism, narrative nonfiction, business writing, and editing. She was awarded the Provost’s Award for Innovative Teaching in 2015 and 2026.
Loranne served the Federation of BC Writers in various roles: on the editorial board of its magazine WordWorks, and as past president and executive director. Over the years, she has worked as a freelance editor of novels, memoirs, self-help, and academic writing.
A graduate of the University of Toronto (BA English) and Pacific University (MFA), Loranne’s other retirement projects include preparing a recently-completed sequel to The Handless Maiden for publication, as well as digging a number of completed novels out of the bottom drawer for a fresh eye.
