Specializes in structural editing for fiction writers at all stages, from emerging authors to seasoned professionals.
Genres: Fiction, including mystery, cozy mystery, historical fiction, romance, and magical realism.
Even as a child, Elisa was editing and revising, inventing alternate endings and new characters to stretch her favourite stories a little further. That impulse to dig into how a story works never left. Elisa earned a B.A. in History and an M.A. in Religious Studies from the University of British Columbia, where she studied the narratives woven through different cultures and religions as windows into human history. She believes that understanding how those stories work is one of the richest creative educations available.
Her path to editing came through her own writing. She became a Fictionary Certified Story Coach and found in structural editing its own creative process, one that examines how plot, pacing, character, and setting work together to tell the story. Elisa is also the creator and writer of The Compound, a fiction podcast in the cozy domestic thriller genre, available at www.thecompoundpodcast.com, Apple Podcasts, and Spotify. She offers structural editing services at www.northernstoryworks.com.
