Dana Sorensen
EDITOR
Specializes in developmental, line, and copy editing, helping authors refine their manuscripts while preserving their unique voice. She works across a variety of genres, including romance, science fiction, historical fiction, thriller, mystery, and young adult fiction. Her editing focuses on clarity, consistency, flow, grammar, and punctuation, with the goal of creating an engaging and immersive reading experience.
Since completing the Certificate in Professional Editing from Mount Royal University in 2023, Dana has worked as a freelance editor and has become an active member of Editors Canada, the North Shore Writers Association, and the Federation of BC Writers. For the past two years, she has served as a professional judge for Writing Battle, evaluating fiction submissions from writers around the world. This work has sharpened her ability to recognize effective story structure, pacing, and emotional resonance.
Dana has also spent two years editing through Blue Pencil Sessions offered by Editors BC and the Vancouver Public Library, providing manuscript feedback to writers of all ages, including teens. She has also acted as a mentor for emerging editors. In addition to her fiction editing work, she is the credited editor of The Playbook for Reinventing Your Career in a World That Won't Stand Still (Iguana Books, 2025).
Before becoming an editor, Dana spent many years working in financial markets. Throughout that time, she continued to pursue her lifelong passion for literature, through studies in creative writing, poetry, and depth psychology. Her enduring fascination with storytelling, human nature, and the written word ultimately led her to professional editing.
Dana enjoys building rapport with the authors she works with and finds each writer’s creative process fascinating. She believes that strong editing is a collaborative partnership and loves helping writers clarify their stories, strengthen their manuscripts, and ultimately create meaningful connections with their readers.
Dana is passionate about human-centred editing. She believes there is a unique and often intangible quality to the creative process that emerges through the relationship between writer, story and editor. While technology can be a useful tool, she is committed to providing thoughtful, human editorial guidance that respects each author’s voice and vision.
